There are thousands of weather apps for the general public, from free to quite expensive. After all, it’s easier to get an update by looking at your tablet or your phone than to sit down at a computer or call Flight Service. Checking the weather before flight has always been one of the most popular uses for the iPad.

Ilike turtles12/26/2023 ![]() Soon thereafter, Jonathon had spawned a line of merchandise, from T-shirts to mugs to bags, and every other trinket that could possibly bear the zombie-painted face of a turtle-loving 10-year-old. Then 16-year-old Kim Ware was contacted by a friend via Myspace, who, as Kim told the Washington Post, "Basically wrote to say, ' Do you know your brother is famous on the Internet?'" A simple YouTube search later, and Kim had discovered that her brother was not only the talk of the town, but seemingly the talk of the nation. How did Jonathon find out about his fame? Following his famous proclamation of turtle devotion, however, his mother told KGW that the family would also be adding a turtle to the mix. ![]() As of 2007, the Ware family had three dogs, four cats, two birds, two hermit crabs, a lizard, and a gecko. But it seems that Jonathon is just an all-around animal lovin' kind of guy. In 2007 the world stood still and watched Zombie Kid Jonathan Ware say his all time punchline I like Turtles. Well, he also likes geckos, as evidenced by KGW's follow-up interview. Is it just turtles or animals in general Jonathon likes? Suddenly, a local media correspondent from KGW catches sight of the freshly painted zombie face of Jonathon Ware. I'll set the stage for you first: it's a summer day, May 31, 2007, to be exact, and the Ware family is visiting the Rose Festival in Portland, Oregon. If you haven't contributed to the 45.3 million views Jonathon's video has on YouTube, here's the video, in all its glory. Let's take a look back at Jonathon's meteoric rise to YouTube fame, and what the now-17-year-old is doing these days. Is it the way he says it? Is it the fact that he says it at all? Is it the rather frightening zombie face paint coupled with his love of turtles that makes the video so absurdly funny? Sometimes, the most important questions in life just don't have suitable answers. But none stranger and more oddly cute than the boy known to YouTube as the "Zombie Kid" who "Likes Turtles." In 2007, then-10-year-old Jonathon Ware uttered three words that would be heard by over 45 million people: "I like turtles."Ĭonsidered one of TIME Magazine's 50 best YouTube videos, it is difficult to pinpoint what exactly it is about Jonathon and his confession that has kept audiences coming back year after year after year. The Internet is a strange place, and it's given us a few strange celebrities over the years. Open & share this gif i like turtles, news, meme, with everyone you know.

![]() Hyper Universe is taking registrations for the beta now and will have it’s full release sometime in 2017. If player’s aren’t already sick of the MOBA genre, there’s no reason HU couldn’t blow up. I’ve spent enough time playing Nexon’s other titles, like Maplestory, to know the company treats its games with respect. The game was developed by Korean studio CWAVESOFT and is being adapted for the west by Nexon. Hyper Universe didn’t blow me away, but it does show promise. The Hypers have just as much cleavage as Smite gods and LoL champions, if not more. There’s a big boss monster, which grants your team pushing power when killed. The jungle has stronger monsters, which can be killed by off-lane players for more gold. Items are assigned to the number keys abilities and jumping to the letters. Ultimate abilities get unlocked at level six. No aiming is required since everything is on a 2D plane. You play without a mouse, using the arrow keys to move. The Hypers are all unique looking, with crazy backstories. It’s a 3D side scroller, so no top down perspective.Įach Hyper gets four abilities, on top of an ultimate. Ways Hyper Universe Is Different From Every Other MOBA There's a Hyper that makes snowmen, I'm a fan. There’s a knight, who is a mongoose on top of a rhino straight out of Donkey Kong Country. The actual Hypers don’t take themselves too seriously, with a lot of them being wacky interpretations of classic tropes. There are six classes of Hyper, ranging from tank to DPS. You play as one of over 12 Hypers in Hyper Universe (at least in the PAX South demo), each with their own set of unique powers. The other lanes, which can be accessed through ladders or energy fields on the ground, are filled with NPCs that can be farmed for gold. Unlike traditional MOBAs, Hyper Universe contains a network of seven platforms, two of which are turret lanes. Hyper Universe is a side-scrolling MOBA where two teams of four battle it out until one of their bases are destroyed. Does it have what it takes to stack up with the greats?Īt PAX South, I got to try out a game of Hyper Universe and here are my thoughts. Hyper Universe is the newest contender in the multiplayer online battle arena genre. Still, that doesn’t stop companies from trying to reinvent the wheel with flashy, new mechanics. It’s hard to improve on the original Warcraft 3/ DOTA formula that’s been the backbone of the genre for decades. Some have had lasting appeal, like League of Legends or Smite, while some aren’t even out of beta yet, like Master X Master. The last listed item is also interesting, indicating that fans preferred a more "casual, off the cuff vlog" to a scripted one.I have played a lot of MOBAs in my day. As such, content of the beta test does not. We can only grant a limited number of Trailblazers access, thank you for your understanding. Oh, there were other important community concerns addressed in the early access, such as forced AI matches and the addition of a surrender vote. This closed beta test will have a limited number of participants, is free of charge, and any game account progress will be deleted after the beta. It's not as if she, and the rest of the female Hypers, are A-cups now, but at least she'll be a little warmer in the winter. Below is a press release from the Mississippi Department of Transportation: Central Transportation. You can see how Celine's design has changed just by comparing her image at the top of that page with her image under the 10 Most Picked Hypers header. 15 hours ago hyper tough 1600 psi pressure washer. When I tried out Hyper Universe at PAX South, my biggest takeaway was all the jiggle the female Hypers had, so maybe it's not such a bad thing to have that toned down a tiny bit. Some female characters were "changed to show less skin, less buxom," which developer Eundo Chae responded to in September. Speaking of the ladies, they're the first topic in the "Top Community Issues" rundown on the webpage with the infographic. Once I get my PC up and running, I'm more than likely picking up HU once it launches officially. The top six, and eight of the top 10, most popular Hypers were of the female persuasion, with Celine, The Arrow of Shelara, at #1 overall. They're currently doing a closed beta now, so if it sounds like your cup of tea, you can get a beta key here. Bluefire was possibly the best player in early access, boasting of the best KDR in a single match (12.98) and overall (5.59). Overall, there were 359,413 matches played, lasting 124,947 hours, which comes out to about 22 minutes per player in a match. To celebrate the end of early access, Nexon has released an infographic, telling us more and more about the game - while also talking about showing us less. Side-scrolling MOBA Hyper Universe is just about ready for launch.

Nougat audio bar12/26/2023 ![]() In composition it’s not all that different from a marshmallow, and in fact it has some attributes in common with the hard edges of a perfectly stale Jet Puff, although it lacks the marshmallow’s slippery, gelatinous quality. Nougat de Montelimar is a dense white candy made of egg whites, sugar and honey, studded with toasted almonds and pistachios. ![]() If you’re not familiar with nougat, forget the fluffy center of a Milky Way bar. Nevertheless I had a feeling that this trip was going to make me sick. The region had plenty to offer in the way of dietary balance: soupe au pistou, ratatouille, fruity black olive tapenade, garlicky anchoiade, fresh sheep and goats milk cheeses of every imaginable description, the meaty reds and refreshing white wines of the Cotes du Rhone. I was now on the brink of a sticky five-day nougat binge. I had known nougat for years as a candy you could buy at grocery stores in Paris and regularly beseeched anyone I knew traveling to France, no matter how remote our acquaintance, to bring me back a bag or two. The town is surrounded by vineyards, which in early spring are gnarled little stubs sprouting fresh pale leaves and fields of lavender grown for cosmetics and herbes de Provence, orderly rows of silvery green tufts which by summer turn a blaze of purple. One of the little towns that speckle the triangle formed by Provence, the Rhone Valley and the Languedoc, Montelimar is 650 kilometers southeast of Paris, about three hours by the TGV ( Train a Grande Vitesse ). ![]() I had almost expected it to, because Montelimar is the nougat capital of the world. As Parisian families beginning their vacation pressed past me on the platform, I imagined for one simultaneously awful and delightful moment that the entire town reeked with the unmistakable smell of warm egg whites and sugar. Suddenly aware that my stomach was a little unsettled from watching the scenery whiz past the window at 300 kilometers an hour, I caught a whiff of something sweet, sticky and pervasive. I smelled it as soon as I stepped off the train in Montelimar.

Clicktoflash firefox12/26/2023 (I think even IE puts favicons in tabs now.) I suppose it would interfere with the nice clean look of Safari, but it is useful to know at a glance what’s in each tab. This is not unique to Chrome if anything Safari is the weird case here. And not having the close button on the left, as is standard on Mac OS X, didn’t bother me as much as I thought it would.įavicons in tabs. Rather than try to explain this, I’m just going to refer you to an article that explains the intelligent behavior of tabs in Chrome. Chrome handles Flash better, too.Ĭlosing tabs. But leaving Safari open for hours results in it ballooning to a few hundred megabytes of RAM, while Chrome reclaims things better when tabs are closed. Safari is a memory hog, although part of that is running it in 64-bit mode and Chrome in 32-bit mode. (This could be considered a feature, but it’s not Mac-like.) Labels are bolded, the last section has a scroll bar for just plain-old interface items, and buttons that bring up more info open a new window instead of a sheet. But more than that, Chrome’s preferences window just feels wrong. Chrome’s actual preferences may be more customizable than Safari, but you’d have to dig into the low-level settings interface to see that. I’m torn, but ultimately I think I like the classic way better, even if it does take up more space. And I’ve found I really like being able to double-click an empty part of the tab bar to make a new tab, but double-clicking a window’s title bar minimizes it, and Chrome is no exception. It makes sense, actually, to have the tabs above the address bar, but while it does look cleaner with more browsing room, it’s just harder to drag the window around. It’s ironic that the browser is called “Chrome” when one of the original stated goals is to remove the “chrome” (browser interface elements) from your web browsing experience. This comparison comes after using Chrome for a week, then switching back and using Safari for, well, most of a week. (Firefox’s Gecko engine is also pretty good, though.) In the last year, Chrome’s market share has surpassed Safari’s. Like Safari, it’s based on the WebKit rendering engine, so it handles cutting-edge HTML5ed-up websites well. The “feels like a real Mac app” kept me from switching to Firefox, though-the various attempts at faking Mac behavior made Firefox feel like a crippled application, despite any web browsing capabilities.Ĭhrome, on the other hand, is the newest major contender to the browser market (just over two years old), and I’d only tried it for a little bit a year ago. ![]() The one thing Safari didn’t have until recently is extensions, and Safari’s extensions are still rather limited (both in capability and quantity) compared to Chrome’s or Firefox’s. (This last is precisely the reason why Safari on Windows sucks, or at least used to suck: it still feels like a Mac app, which is the wrong thing to do on a Windows system.) And it feels like a Mac app, and integrates quite well with the rest of the system. I like it because it has very strong support for HTML5 and various experimental-y features of the web, and because it has a pretty solid and well-thought-out user interface. Safari is the browser made by Apple, and the default browser on Mac OS X. ![]() The point of one of these things is, of course, to get more people to try using Chrome knowing full well that that was the case, I decided to use Chrome for a week, and see how it stacks up to my regular browser, Safari.įirst, a note on why I use Safari. The system was easily game-able, since it didn’t test whether you actually used the tabs, but it was limited to million anyway, so Google was pretty much guaranteed to hit it. Last week Google ran a program called Chrome for a Cause, in which Google donated money to charities based on how many tabs people opened in Chrome. It’s still pretty much how I feel about Chrome. This was originally posted on my personal blog in December 2010.

Summary of alan moore watchme12/25/2023 ![]() ![]() And this is just one of the many things I adore about this graphic novel.įor example, the two riders the mariner kills once he reaches the shore occurs in Chapter X of Watchmen, “Two Riders Were Approaching…” in which Rorschach and Nite Owl search to understand who was behind Doctor Manhattan’s outburst and disappearance from Earth. Truly alone now, the mariner flees his home in shock and horror, and swims out to sea where the Black Freighter is waiting.Ī truly horrific story, Tales of the Black Freighter like so many other components in Watchmen mimics and enhances the overall story in which it is inlaid. When he reaches his old home - which he knows now has been commandeered by the Black Freighter pirates - he kills the first person he sees…only to discover it is his wife. The mariner loses his sanity, and chooses madness only to discover he has made it home, and immediately goes on a rampage, killing two riders that stumble across his raft on the beach. He shacks together a raft made of his dead companions’ gas bloated bodies, and desperately makes for his home to warn (or avenge, if he is too late) his family about the terror of the black freighter, eating the gulls that fly close enough to his raft, surviving attacking sharks drawn to the human carrion he floats on, and consumes salt water in order to survive the journey. As all his shipmates wash ashore, the mariner realizes that he is not in hell, but the only man to survive the attack. A sailor has been marooned on a desert island after his ship was attacked by the titled Black Freighter. Throughout the book, a young man reads a comic called Tales of the Black Freighter, with a two issue story entitled “Marooned”. In a world where superheroes are real and public opinion has soured toward them, what would comic books be about? In Moore’s Watchmen, the subject is Pirates. One of the most beloved aspects of the use of metafiction, the-story-within-the-story of Tales of the Black Freighter. They discuss English as a visionary language from John Bunyan to James Joyce, hold forth on the illusion of mortality post-Einstein, and insist upon the meanest slum as Blake's eternal holy city.As we discussed yesterday, Alan Moore & Dave Gibbons’s masterpiece Watchmen is a revolutionary work of literature. ![]() An art exhibition is in preparation, and above the world a naked old man and a beautiful dead baby race along the Attics of the Breath toward the heat death of the universe.Īn opulent mythology for those without a pot to piss in, through the labyrinthine streets and pages of Jerusalem tread ghosts that sing of wealth, poverty, and our threadbare millennium. Paul's Cathedral, childbirth on the cobblestones of Lambeth Walk, an estranged couple sitting all night on the cold steps of a Gothic church front, and an infant choking on a cough drop for eleven chapters. There is a conversation in the thunderstruck dome of St. Vagrants, prostitutes, and ghosts rub shoulders with Oliver Cromwell, Samuel Beckett, James Joyce's tragic daughter Lucia, and Buffalo Bill, among many others. In these pages lurk demons from the second-century Book of Tobit and angels with golden blood who reduce fate to a snooker tournament. Embedded in the grubby amber of the district's narrative among its saints, kings, prostitutes, and derelicts, a different kind of human time is happening, a soiled simultaneity that does not differentiate between the petrol-colored puddles and the fractured dreams of those who navigate them.Įmploying, a kaleidoscope of literary forms and styles that ranges from brutal social realism to extravagant children's fantasy, from the modern stage drama to the extremes of science fiction, Jerusalem's dizzyingly rich cast of characters includes the living, the dead, the celestial, and the infernal in an intricately woven tapestry that presents a vision of an absolute and timeless human reality in all of its exquisite, comical, and heartbreaking splendor. In the half a square mile of decay and demolition that was England's Saxon capital, eternity is loitering between the firetrap housing projects. In the epic novel Jerusalem, Alan Moore channels both the ecstatic visions of William Blake and the theoretical physics of Albert Einstein through the hardscrabble streets and alleys of his hometown of Northampton, UK. Fierce in its imagining and stupefying in its scope, Jerusalem is the tale of everything, told from a vanished gutter. |
